The winter months bring a new dimension of hardship to the lives of those within our community who do not have shelter from the elements. Icy winds, drifting snow, and bitter cold are nuisances for many of us, but for those of us without a stable place to stay, each cold night presents new challenges and new dangers.
Without shelter from the elements, extreme weather conditions can have very serious consequences for those of us without a place to stay.
The Code Blue program at HATAS is part of a state-wide effort to protect the most vulnerable members of our community. With the support of community members just like you we have been able to help keep our neighbors safe through the winter months.
Code Blue mandates that when the temperature falls below freezing, safety takes precedent.
Working with law enforcement and with other organizations within the Capital Region HATAS leads the community in Code Blue awareness and coordination.
With your support, we can continue our mission of compassion to combat, reduce, and prevent homelessness through the winter months and beyond.
Next time you are shoveling off your steps or wiping snow off your car remember that no one should be left out in the cold.
