Give today to help us transform stable housing into true homes.

How does having a true home help keep people on the right track?

Furnishings are an often-overlooked component of the fight to break the cycle of homelessness.

Through our comprehensive range of effective programs, we place people in need in the housing that helps them get on their feet.

But that's not the whole story.

We all know that a home is more than a roof over your head.

While shelter from the elements, a safe place to sleep, and the basic amenities provided by modern housing make a world of difference in the lives of the individuals HATAS helps, a bare apartment is not the springboard for success that strengthens our community.

To truly break the cycle of homelessness, our clients need more than a roof over their heads. They need a home and lasting gainful employment.

Would you keep an employee who came to work every day looking like they slept on the floor?

It can be easy to forget that our days begin in our beds and end in our beds. It can be easy to forget that this basic amenity, and the refreshing quality of a good night's sleep spent in a comfortable bed that comes with it, is a big factor in the success of our day.

Even waking up on the wrong side of the bed is better than sleeping on the floor.

Furnishings transform a house into a home and provide a practical utility that many of us take for granted.

  • Job applicants who have not been able to store their clothing neatly in a dresser are less likely to be hired than other interviewees.
  • Individuals seeking employment who have nowhere to store important papers have a higher chance of losing critical documents.
  • The stress of sleeping on the floor or other uncomfortable furniture takes a physical (and visible) toll on both job seekers and employees, making the tasks of finding and retaining gainful employment difficult.

The HATAS Capital Region Furniture Bank is the solution to this often-overlooked problem within our community.

How we achieve results:

  1. We work closely with community partners to collect and store gently-used furniture from donors, corporate partners, and sponsors.
  2. Low-income households in need are referred to our no-cost furniture warehouse from our partner organizations.
  3. Referred households then shop in our warehouse and the furniture they need is delivered at no charge.

As the Capital Region Furniture Bank has grown with the support of community members just like you, so too have the expenses of running such a popular and successful program.

Join us in our mission to strengthen our community by helping neighbors transform their houses into homes, and their challenges into success and independence.

Do you have gently-used home furnishings that can live another life for someone in need?
